Our folk group learns without written notation, helping members develop crucial creative musicianship skills. This method enhances listening abilities and understanding of music. We welcome any instrument or voice, creating a flexible ensemble for various skill levels, fostering a supportive environment for growth.
Folk Group runs on Saturday mornings, 10.45am-12.15pm, at Brookfield Community School.
Alongside mastering folk repertoire, we emphasize improvisation, encouraging free expression of musical ideas. Engaging with diverse folk traditions broadens our repertoire and deepens appreciation for the genre. This collaborative atmosphere nurtures teamwork and creativity, allowing musicians to explore new sounds while building lasting connections.
Meet the director: Charlotte Pinder

Charlotte comes from Rotherham and learnt the violin with the Rotherham Music Service. She studied music at the University of Wales, Bangor, and then went on to teach with local music services.
More recently she trained for her Masters in music therapy with Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest music therapy charity. She now delivers music therapy in special schools, making connections through music with children who have a variety of difficulties and needs.
Charlotte is passionate about music education and enjoys directing groups with children and adults alike. She also continues to enjoy playing the violin in orchestras and recitals.
In her spare time she can be found walking the great outdoors, preferably in the direction of coffee and cake!
